  • Sigma Arrow (Cycling) Sportive
    26/05/2019 All day

    Market Rasen Racecourse

Taking its name from the typically flat lands in Lincolnshire and the surrounding area, you’ll glide through the level plains on the Sigma Sports' Arrow Sportive like a dart through the air – save for an unlikely uphill test that waits for tired legs at the end of the ride.

You’ll start out on Market Rasen Racecourse and head south, straight onto quiet roads. The first part of the course points more downhill than the even gradient the area is famous for – so make the most of the slightly sloping angle as you pass through sleepy village after sleepy village, linked by unspoilt country lanes. Heading towards Lincoln, the first climb of the day will present itself just after Canwick. It’s steep but quick and easy to deal with after a little exertion.

Once this has passed, it’s onto the long, straight open roads as far south as Ruskington in the North Kesteven District – giving you through opportunity to set your own pace on terrain that remains relatively flat.

Crossing over a series of dykes and small rivers, you’ll head to Woodhall Spa and Bucknall, where the terrain slowly begins to rise, as you cling to the Lincolnshire Wolds for the next 15 miles until the finish line is in sight, from here it is a flat run in to Market Rasen.

  • Peak Epic Cycling Sportive
    02/06/2019 All day

2019 will be the 7th edition of the toughest Peak District sportive. The Peak Epic is one of the UK’s most challenging road cycling events. Comparable to the Fred Whitton and Dragon Ride.

The ride starts and finishes from Lady Manners School in the beautiful Peak District market town of Bakewell. The truly epic long route ascends 4000m / 13000ft in just 166km / 103 miles, across the full breadth of Peaks taking in the Hope Valley, Edale, Chapel-en-le-Frith, The Goyt Valley/Cat & Fiddle, Macclesfield Forest, Axe Edge, Longnor and finally Lathkill Dale.

The majority of the ride is held on narrow country lanes away from the traffic filled A and B roads. The terrain is relentless, continuously up and down, twisting and turning leading to low average speeds e.g the average finish time last year for the long route was 9 hours. The Peak Epic is certainly not to be underestimated!

At the foot of all the named climbs there will be climb boards depicting average and max gradient (%), climb length in (km), vertical ascent (m) these will be accompanied by climb summit signs at the top. However do not be fooled into thinking the only climbs on the route are the named ones. There are plenty of hidden “non climbs” scattered throughout.

In addition to the long route there is a Medium route – for full route details see the maps and profiles below.

The Peak Epic is a British Cycling registered sportive run under BC rules and regulations.

  • Nottinghamshire Wheeler
    16/06/2019 All day

In its third year, the Nottinghamshire Wheeler Sportive has been given an earlier slot in the calendar giving you a chance to take in the brisk and winding byways of rural Nottinghamshire during the summer months.

The routes start out from Southwell Racecourse and after cutting through Southwell itself riders head out north, winding through quaint English villages on gently undulating terrain, all the while tracking the River Trent for the first 20 or so miles. After passing through Sutton-on-Trent, Short route riders will point their steeds west towards Tuxford, while Epic and Standard riders continue on a northerly track. Here the Epic and Standard routes take in more of glorious Nottinghamshire: crossing railway lines and canals, bisecting swathes of pastureland — you really begin to get a sense of the area.

There are no sudden climbs to note in these early stages of the ride to catch you unawares but make sure you leave a little in the tank for the latter stages of the course.

After reaching Retford riders will work their way south, dropping down through the lovely village of Egmanton before cycling on to Farnsfield. The Epic and Standard routes will split for a second time with the Epic riders continuing south and the Standard riders making a break for home, heading out east and returning through Southwell for the last time.

At this point, Epic riders turn west initially as they begin to climb higher to the town of Rainworth. From here you’ll head south to Calverton where you will find Georges Lane - a climb that may test you a bit if you haven’t kept up with your training during the spring months.

After a quick descent into Woodborough, you’ll have a short recovery before we test you one final time, before the home stretch. Lingwood Lane is a short-lived climb with a short respite half way up, before the final 9% kick at the top. Take time to catch your breath now as it is all downhill for here, giving you a chance to take in the sights along the river Trent.

This year, thanks to the fact the event is now held in the Summer, the Nottinghamshire Wheeler has introduced a third longer route giving those riders who relish a century cycle ride a chance to make a day of it, while still catering to those who just want to take a leisurely cycle around Nottinghamshire.

Grimsthorpe Gallop back for it's 3rd year! Join us on this beautiful trail run...

Set in the beautiful grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle, in the delightfully charming Lincolnshire countryside just 10mins off the A1. This event makes for a perfect summer race, whether you take on the family friendly 5k or go for the longer challenges of  10k, 10miles or 13.1 miles.

The 4 routes take you past various delights within the private grounds including the castle, lake, tree lined tarmac avenues, ancient woodland along grassed paths and a victorian railway culvet. The train line no longer exists, but the 10 and 13.1 mile routes travel along this section and take you to a part of the world generally unseen by the public.

The race start/finish line will be in front of the castle along the driveway, offering a unique venue. We will have the usual friendly event atmosphere that we bring to all of our races, & amazing bling - making this perfect for your 1st, 2nd or 100th race!

Like our other races we hope you'll come as a family and take the opportunity to enter the 'little legs' into the 5k race. A simple, not too challenging distance that we invite ages of 4+ along to. Plus ALL finishers receive a bespoke race medal!

Please note elevation on the route maps - you start up at the Castle & run downhill towards the lake - there are several undulations (hills) on the course with outstanding views.

Due to the increased temperatures the past 2 years we have decided to have an earlier start time! Feel free to bring a picninc & enjoy the park after your race.

    We've also included the following:

    • 13.1 mile run race
    • 10k run race
    • 10 mile run race
    • 5k run/walk race
