Midwinter Mystery Tour
The year is 1929 and Lady Kitty Brownlow, an amateur actress, has invited her closest and most creative friends to join her in staging a murder mystery play.
The scene is set, an uninvited guest has been found dead in the Breakfast Room. The below stairs staff are discreetly watching the play unfold and are reporting back to the curious cook, Agatha, who is eager to solve the murder.
As a visitor to Belton this Christmas, we will ask you to unravel the secrets behind Kitty’s mystery play and experience the house as you’ve never seen it before.
Take the tour
Midwinter Mystery is a guided tour with a twist. Hear the story unfold and listen out for clues as one of Belton’s senior servants leads you through the basement. Then ascend the stairs to investigate the crime scene. Search for evidence to support your hunches in the family rooms before regrouping in the Chapel Drawing Room for the ‘summing up’.
Tours run daily from 11am – 3pm and tickets can be bought at Visitor Reception from 9.30am. Please note that advance booking is only available online for the tours running at 11am, 12.20pm, 1.40pm and 3pm. Advance booking is not available for any of the other tour times as tours are volunteer led and subject to availability. With limited spaces they can book up quickly, so we advise collecting a ticket on arrival to avoid disappointment. To book, please visit Belton’s ‘What’s On‘ page.
Visitors are asked to dress warmly with comfortable shoes as the house is not heated in winter. Each tour lasts 50 minutes, and includes three flights of stairs and uneven flooring in the basement. This immersive tour costs £4 for all visitors in addition to standard winter grounds admission.
