Our Bed & Breakfast is approximately 6 miles from the historic town of Melton Mowbray, the Rural Capital of Food & Drink, and conveniently placed for Nottingham, Loughborough and Leicester. East Midlands Airport is just 30minutes away, and major train lines into London are also 30 minutes away. Melton Mowbray is of course famous for its Pork Pie and Stilton Cheese, and whether you agree with the principles or not, it is also steeped in the history of fox hunting.
There is wonderful museum which has just undergone a major refit, which tells you the story of the sport, pork pie, stilton cheese and much more……..Melton Mowbray visitor guides are in all rooms. Melton Mowbray hosts a street market every Tuesday and Saturday, and especially worth a visit, when, on the Tuesday a livestock market is held. In this bustling market, there is also a farmers market and antiques market, so something for all to see.
Whilst in the town itself, a visit to St Marys Church is a must. A 13th Century church, with the most magnificent stained glass windows and it really comes into its own at Christmas with its fabulous Christmas Tree Festival, usually held over the first weekend of December.
Other attractions in and around the area include the National Space Centre in Leicester, Rutland Water – for the fantastic wild life and water sports, Twinlakes – a superb location for children to let their hair down, and at nearby Langar there is parachuting and quad biking. We are also lucky to have some excellent fishing lakes nearby.
We are on the edge of the wonderful, picturesque, Vale of Belvoir, which forms from parts of Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. The name Belvoir, (pronounced “Beaver” ), means Beautiful View and this dates back to Norman times. It is rich in fabulous walks, and provides some very good stopping off points for wonderful ales and fine food that the area is so well known for.
With it being a working farm, we unfortunately, have to have a no dog policy.
