Melton Farmers have developed a reputation for quality meats and produce.

The main objective of a farmers market is to give an opportunity for local producers to sell fresh quality produce to local consumers. To create an understanding of quality that the seller can promote to the buyer creating a fair and familiarity to the product. Melton Mowbray Market are passionate about the Farm to Fork philosophy and welcome local producers of good quality meat and vegetables alike.

Every Friday from 8am, lots of stalls with local produce; fruit, veg, meat fish and cheese.  Local craft stalls offering quality gifts, preserves and plants.  Bakery with fresh bread, and desserts stall.  Dickinson & Morris Pork Pies, local egg vendor, and lots more.

We also host a bric a brac section, vendors can have a table £5 first table, £2.50 thereafter.

Please read the information below, for a little insight into just some of our regular traders that we are thrilled to host twice a week providing stunning quality wares and ingredients to our customers:

    1324 Espresso

Beautiful brewed fresh coffee to drink in or take away ran by the wonderful Darryl and his wife Angela.

Why 1324? It was the year Melton Mowbray Market got royal approval from King Edward 2nd. It was running for 300 years before that with tolls, so this Market has been in existence for over 1000 years, in fact it was mentioned in the Doomsday Book.

    Jenny’s Cuisine

Home cooked Asian and Chinese food freshly prepared to eat on site or take away.

    Cards by Marilyn

Unique handmade cards for all occasions. Special orders by request.

    Fair Game Foods

Fair Game Foods invite you to come and try our famous Farmers Market succulent pork roast rolls. You can create your own Meat Feast with the selection of cooked meats that we have to offer. Professional, quality outside catering, with over 15 years’ experience, we seek to promote locally sourced ingredients. Customer satisfaction is our number 1 priority.

    Slightly potty

Slightly potty is a small business, dealing with every aspect of silk flowers. Whether an arrangement, loose flowers, a special occasion, or something in your own pot. I was awarded a Royal Warrant in 2009 by the Queen, and have provided silk flowers for most of the Royal Residences. I started in the Friday farmers market, about twelve years ago, and have remained faithful to this market ever since.

    Scarborough Fayre

Scarborough fayre has been trading for 18 years, selling top quality fresh fish, shellfish and game in season. We pride ourselves on the products that we supply to both retail and catering customers. Our trademark is “Fish so fresh the next of kin have not yet been informed!!”

    Melton Cheeseboard

We offer the widest range of cheeses in the county with over 150 different varieties to choose from, many of which are sourced locally from Leicestershire and the surrounding counties. We also stock some of the best cheeses that the UK has to offer, in addition to a wide variety of continental cheeses.

Stilton is our speciality, and we are unique in sourcing our cheeses directly from Long Clawson Dairy, based just five miles outside Melton Mowbray and Cropwell Bishop Creamery, based just over the border into Nottinghamshire.

Our Stilton is graded to our own specifications at the dairies, before being delivered to our shop, we can therefore guarantee the quality of our Stilton to ensure that you get the best possible cheese without exception.

However, it’s not all about Stilton! The Melton Cheeseboard are the cheese specialists in Melton Mowbray with a host of other fantastic cheeses to offer, from local Leicester’s – so much better than the bland supermarket offerings – and other great British Farmhouse cheeses.  With a complimentary range of Continental cheeses there’s always a treat in store for the cheese lover.

    Hambleton Bakery

In September 2008, Julian Carter and Tim Hart opened Hambleton Bakery to produce top quality traditionally made bread for Hambleton Hall and Hart’s Nottingham. In addition to a growing list of wholesale customers (pubs, restaurants, delis, etc.) the bakery now has retail outlets in Exton, Oakham, Market Harborough, West Bridgford, Melton Mowbray and Stamford.

Initially the aim was to rediscover the taste of good bread. Not the taste of sugar, malt, cheese, onions, olives, sundried tomatoes, poppy seeds etc. etc., but the magical flavour that can be conjured from unadulterated organic flour, salt and water using the slow, traditional processes that made the bread that fed our ancestors.

    Grasmere Farm

At Grasmere Farm quality, flavour, and tenderness are integral to our philosophy. We are passionate about providing you with affordable, delicious food that is hand crafted by our dedicated butchers and cooks. We combine the benefits of old fashioned farming methods and a blend of innovative yet traditional recipes, to satisfy today’s discerning food lovers. We aim to source all of the ingredients from the local area and try to minimise the use of packaging to limit our environmental impact.

Grasmere Farm is proud of its reputation for delicious sausages. We are passionate about wholesome, affordable food that is well made and tastes good. From our traditional Lincolnshire Sausage seasoned with sage, to the unique flavour of Smoked Rutland Sausage, there is a sausage for every palate and mood.

College Taster Day and Open Day – Brooksby Campus

    • Date: Sat, 02 March 2019
    • Time: 09:00/10:00 – 13:00
    • Venue: Brooksby Campus
    • Address: Leicestershire, LE14 2LJ

Are you interested in studying at BMC next year? Come along to our Brooksby Campus Taster Day and Open Day to find out what it’s like to be a student at BMC!
During this event, you will be able to take a tour of the campus, as a part of the Open Day, OR get involved in a ‘Taster Day’ workshop in your chosen course area. Please make sure you register for the correct event by clicking either the ‘Register for the Taster Day’ OR Register for the Taster Day’ button above.

What’s the difference between a Taster Day and an Open Day?

    The Taster Day (9am – 1pm)

A Taster Day is a structured event that runs from 9am – 1pm. You will arrive at 9am for refreshments and a welcome talk. You will then participate in a two-hour taster session in your chosen subject area from 10am – 12pm. During this time, there will also be a series of talks available for parents/guardians on areas such as Admissions, Apprenticeships, Higher Education, Student Services, Additional Learning Support, Transport, and Maths and English.

A Taster Day is a fantastic opportunity to experience first-hand what it’s like to study at BMC. Whether its handling some exotics in our Animal Care Centre, learning about lambing with our Agriculture tutors, or playing some sports on our 3G pitch, we’ve got something to suit all tastes*.

Please note: If you are booking to attend a Taster Day, you will need to book by the 25th February to secure a place, after this date we cannot guarantee there will be a space available, so book early to avoid disappointment!

    The Open Day (10am – 1pm)

The Open Day is much less structured than the Taster Day. The campus will be open from 10am – 1pm for you to have a look around our fantastic facilities, meet our expert teaching staff, and learn more about the range of courses we offer. The Open Day is perfect if it’s your first time to BMC and you want to get a feel for the College, or if you are interested in a few different courses and want to learn more so you can decide which course is right for you.

We also have staff available who can assist with any of your funding or transport questions, as well as our student support teams who can talk to you about any extra help you might need during your time at college.

Visit the Brooksby Campus if you are interested in:

    • Agriculture

    • Construction and Joinery

Doddington Hall, Doddington, Lincoln LN6 4RU, UK

Join us for a spectacular pageant of spring bulbs, beginning in early February with wonderful snowdrops, Cyclamen coum, and Crocus tommasinianus, continuing through March and early April with drifts of Lent lilies and our unique collection of heritage daffodils (including rare Edwardian varieties), winter aconites and snake’s head fritillaries until May.

The spring bulb pageant was started in the 1950s by Claire’s grandparents Ralph and Antonia Jarvis. Claire’s father Antony Jarvis and late mother Victoria continued the work and Antony estimates that he has planted or moved 150,000 bulbs in the last 25 years. Claire added a further 5000 snowdrops to the nature trail with some money she inherited from her maternal Grandmother Cecily Mathias. ‘Cecily’s Snowdrops’ have now been enjoyed by visitors since 2005.

    Don’t forget Mothering Sunday – 31 March

Bulbs are a spectacular feature at Doddington. Our Gardens are full of Spring bulbs and filled with drifts of golden daffodils during March. Treat your mum to a gorgeous stroll in the Gardens, a spot of retail therapy and perhaps even some delicious tea and homemade cake in our Café.

Head down to the Melton Mowbray Market on a Tuesday and you will find a vast variety of stalls, livestock, antiques and much more.

    Antiques

The Antiques Fair has been building up from its small creation to what now must be the central buying and selling arena in Melton on Tuesdays with great atmosphere and enthusiasm.

Anything can be picked up for a bargain from genuine antiques to future classic designs.

The list of items usually available would be endless so here is a selection:

Silver, brass, copper, glass, jewellery, postcards, small and medium sized furniture, cigarette cards, china, ceramics, tea services, and novelties.

    Livestock Market

Also on Tuesdays is the traditional livestock market, including fur & feather, farmers market, plus poultry, pets, timber etc.
There has been a livestock market on this site in Melton for over 1,000 years!

    Farmer’s Market

Melton Farmers have developed a reputation for quality meats and produce.

The main objective of a farmers market is to give an opportuninty for local producers to sell fresh quality produce to local consumers. To create an understanding of quality that the seller can promote to the buyer creating a fair and familiarity to the product.

Please read the information below, for a little insight into just some of our regular traders that we are thrilled to host twice a week providing stunning quality wares and ingredients to our customers:

    Feast and Furious

At Feast and the Furious we smoke all sorts of foods over real wood and make delicious hot sauces to go with them!

We cold smoke cheeses such as Stilton, Red Leicester, Cheddar, Halloumi, Brie and Mozzarella over oak, beech and applewood for example. We smoke nuts such as salted roasted peanuts which are really popular and a great snack item. We also smoke salted butter, salt, garlic and many other things that we are adding to the list over time.

We also hot smoke beef brisket and pulled pork which we will sell portioned and packaged for you to enjoy at home and it’s what we normally serve on our food truck as well. We take our food truck to events, weddings and festivals and it is available for private hire events.

    Turners Quality Bakers

Turners quality bakers produce a full range of traditional English bread and rolls as well as a fantastic evolving range of sour dough including spelt, rye, corn, Mediterranean and soda bread to name a few.

Based at Cropwell bishop they have recently joined us in the Farmer’s market in one of our Units.

    19 Gales

19gales Farmhouse foods is a family Business, which is run by the Hollingshead family, who are 3rd generation farmers. 19 Gales is located on a working farm just outside Atherstone in Warwickshire. The farm is 220 acres of a mixture of grass for grazing and growing cereals to feed our animals in the winter months. We pride ourselves on our outdoor herd of British Blue cattle. When visiting 19 Gales Farm you are able to see the cattle grazing outside and then visit our Bakery to see a Steak pie being baked in the oven. The complete chain from start to finish.

Weekly dementia friendly swimming sessions are now available at Cotgrave Leisure Centre to help individuals and carers enjoy exercise in comfortable surroundings.

From tomorrow (November 7), individuals, and families and friends who help sufferers can enjoy sessions every Wednesday from 1pm to 3pm.

There is no need to book, just turn up and enjoy the session and to help launch the class, the first six weeks are free of charge for all attendees.

The Dementia Swimming Project is part of Rushcliffe Borough Council’s and Lex Leisure’s wider health strategy with sessions designed to create a safe and friendly swimming environment.

The classes are led by swimmers and carers with trained staff attending poolside to offer guidance and support to enjoy a gentle exercise and social session in the pool.

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Deputy Leader Cllr Debbie Mason explained just how many people could benefit from its introduction.

She said: “Within Rushcliffe, approximately 1 per cent of our residents are living with dementia. As a Council we want to ensure they are supported with wellbeing opportunities wherever we can.

“The benefits of swimming are well publicised both in terms of physical health and emotional wellbeing but it has also been shown to improve the quality of life of those living with dementia.

There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with one in six over the age of 80 now having a form of the condition.

There is also a monthly Dementia Support group at Dove Cottage Day Hospice.

For more information on the Dementia Swimming Project visit www.swimming.org/dementiafriendly, contact Cotgrave Leisure Centre on 0115 989 2916 or email [email protected]

Stilton is our speciality, and we are unique in sourcing our cheeses directly from Long Clawson Dairy, based just five miles outside Melton Mowbray and Cropwell Bishop Creamery, based just over the border into Nottinghamshire.

Geese and Fountain have been working with the newly-formed ‘Team Toxic’ breweries (Sue Hayward of ‘Waen Brewery’ and Gazza Prescott of ‘Mission Creep’, formerly of ‘Hopcraft’), we’ll be bringing you a craft beer festival like those you might expect to find taking place in an urban hipster bar, but doing the whole thing with a ‘village pub’ feel. So if craft beer by a real fire is your thing, this is definitely the event for you.

More details will be announced very soon, but for now, be tempted by the following highlights:

    Tasting Sessions
    Panel Discussions
    Food and Beer Matching Meals
    Live Music
    Beer-themed Movies

We’re hoping to involve at least one brewery trip into the mix, and there’ll be lots of opportunity to interact with Sue and Gazza, and other brewers over the course of the weekend. And, of course, there’ll be lots of lovely beer.
