Oakleas Rise played a great gig at the Geese and Fountain last year as a duo. Now a trio, as Dale Freeman joins Lesley Curtis and Stuart McLeod, the harmonies and instrumentation are even more delightful. A contemporary mix of country and folk, their self-penned songs meld perfectly with the well-chosen covers. A new CD, little white lies, was released in August 2019, and now the trio are hitting the road.
This gig is part of “We Shall Overcome 2019” – a whole weekend of activities organised by grass roots musicians and venues to put their music to good use: raising solidarity for organisations helping those who are facing the harsh reality of austerity. The Geese and Fountain will be taking donations on the night for the Grantham Foodbank, and Oakleas Rise have kindly agreed to donate their fee for the gig to the same cause.
Since May 2015 We Shall Overcome organisers have run more than 900 events in 150 different villages, towns and cities, raising an estimated £425,000 worth of food, cash, clothing, bedding, furniture and electrical goods for those struggling at the sharp end of austerity.
Please bring donations – either physical items (coats, socks, food, etc) or cash – and we will look to make 2019 the year we finally end the shame of state-inflicted poverty in our communities.
