Kooroon Exhibition: 2-6pm Friday 4th and 10-6pm Saturday 5th October
October’s Kooroon Gallery offer here at The Old Sorting House includes a section of brand new interpretations of the local mystery emblem the Belvoir Angel. Carved into headstones in churches throughout the Vale of Belvoir and its surroundings areas, the Angels have a very specific look thought to be unique to the area. This design has formed the inspiration for new textile, paper cut, applique, embroidery and folk tale art works created by these two artists.
Vanessa Stone is possibly best known for her paper cut work but actually has a background in textiles and design. For this exhibition she has revisited her textile roots as well as experimenting with scale in paper cut, going from tiny to extremely large to interpret the Angels.
PollyWhistle artist Jane Millum has incorporated her usual story based art dolls and applique approaches in her interpretations but also some more intricate needle work through embroidery and English paper piecing in silk.
Both artists will be exhibiting other work too and on hand to discuss the project and talk through sketchbooks and prototypes.
In addition Jane will be running a Belvior Angel textile sign workshop from 10 to 1pm and Vanessa a Folky Stencilled Fabric Workshop from 2pm to 5pm on the Saturday. (click on the links for more info and bookings).
