Peacock Farm

Lying in the heart of the Vale of Belvoir, Peacock Farm is where our young family live and work.
Carrying on a family tradition that goes back five generations, my husband has always lived on the farm and worked the land. I soon started thinking about the variety of delicious home-grown delights we could produce, so Is started pressing our rapeseed for oil, which proved great for cooking. Keeping bees started as a keen interest but rapidly developed into a hobby.
What I love most is how our three young children enjoy gettng involved. They help feed our chickens, press the seeds for the oil and watch me care for the bees.
I am so passionate about local produce and I hope that when you taste what Peacock Farm has to offer, you will be too.
HONEY
Our honey is collected from hives across the Vale of Belvoir, including the hives we have here at Peacock Farm and a number we keep at a wildflower farm a few miles away, in the village of Langar.
As an arable farm, we have a variety of crops - including, of course, rapeseed oil - that the bees feed on and pollinate. They do a vital job! We encorage pollinators wherever we can by growing flowers such as phacelia around the farm.
Once we have extracted the honey from our hives, it is brought back to Peacock Farm for filtering and jarring. The flavour, texture and colour of the honey varies throughout the summer months, as the taste depends on which flowers the bees have been feeding on.
RAPESEED OIL
My husband has been farming rapeseed oil for many years, so I decided to try pressing it to extract the oil. I carry out the whole process myself here on teh farm, including filtering and bottling it into our distinctive Peacock Farm bottles, which are then sold in local stockists.
When I started producing the oil it was a big hit, and my friends and customers were keen to try infustions. I started with garlic and couldn't believe the incredible taste! Since then I've added to the range, creating rapeseed oil with a kick of chilli and a fragrant, basil-infused oil.
The different flavours are easily identifiable from the different coloured labels on the bottles.
RAPESEED OIL BENEFITS
Rapeseed oil is a highly versatile oil. It has just half of hte saturated fat of oilive oil and is high in omega 3, 6, 9 and vitamin E.
Deliciously light, rapeseed oil can be used in salad dressings, or for frying and baking/ One of the main health benefits is that rapeseed oil has a high smoking point, so it maintains and keeps hold of all its natural goodness when used for cooking.
So, if you're looking for a healthier way to cook, or for a special ingredient to give your food an aromatic twist, Peacock Farm rapeseed oil could be just what you need!
