The Black Swan ‘Eleni’ 9pm

From Eleni:

My names Eleni, I’ve been singing professionally several years now. I sing a little of everything but my favourite genres are Jazz, Soul and Blues. I started out busking and you still might see me singing my little heart out on a week day around the midlands. At weekends I gig in pubs, clubs and private events. I sing a large variety of music to suit all tastes and never fail to get a venue moving and dancing from all ages. I am singing at the Black Swan on Friday, so if you feel like shaking your booty or having a sing along I would love to see you all!

Eleni sings with Rebel Soul UK, a new band on the circuit who caused a bit of a stir when they appeared at the Genny B Jam night last year. 1000 views of my video overnight and nearly 5K view to date. Some fantastic comments from musicians from all over.

Want to know what I mean? Think of a young Janis Joplin right here in Melton singing for you, on this video Jamming with Rebel Soul UK

Taking tea in the afternoon is a tradition that has been enjoyed since the early nineteenth century when the Duchess of Bedford is credited with introducing the custom to fill the long gap between luncheon and dinner.

Afternoon tea is served in the Drawing Room and Breakfast Room at Allington Manor and when the weather permits during the summer, it can be enjoyed on the manor garden lawn. Afternoon tea is hosted on selected Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sunday afternoons between 2:30pm – 5:30pm (last table booking 4pm).

The occasion is perfect for small gatherings as well as for birthday celebrations or club and society social meetings. If you would like to arrange afternoon tea for a group of twelve or more people, we welcome private bookings and invite you to contact us to arrange an afternoon that suits your group.

Our selection of loose leaf teas are sourced by Stokes of Lincoln and our cakes are freshly prepared by Wendy Richardson in Orston, both of which are well renowned suppliers in Lincolnshire and the East Midlands.

Hatha Yoga – 9.30

Hatha simply refers to the practice of physical yoga postures, meaning your Ashtanga, vinyasa, Iyengar and Power Yoga classes are all Hatha Yoga. … Hathapractices are designed to align and calm your body, mind, and spirit in preparation for meditation.

Vinyasa, also called flow because of the smooth way that the poses run together, is one of the most popular contemporary styles of yoga. It’s a broad classification that encompasses many different types of yoga, including Ashtanga and power yoga.

Power yoga is a general term used to describe a vigorous, fitness-based approach to vinyasa-style yoga. … Power yoga incorporates the athleticism of Ashtanga, including lots of vinyasas (series of poses done in sequence) but gives each teacher the flexibility to teach any poses in any order, making every class different.

Dementia-friendly swimming sessions now available at Cotgrave Leisure Centre

Weekly dementia friendly swimming sessions are now available at Cotgrave Leisure Centre to help individuals and carers enjoy exercise in comfortable surroundings.

Individuals, and families and friends who help sufferers can enjoy sessions every Wednesday from 1pm to 3pm.

There is no need to book, just turn up and enjoy the session and to help launch the class, the first six weeks are free of charge for all attendees.

The Dementia Swimming Project is part of Rushcliffe Borough Council’s and Lex Leisure’s wider health strategy with sessions designed to create a safe and friendly swimming environment.

Robert Linthwaite, Lex Leisure’s centre manager at Cotgrave Leisure Centre, said: “Dementia swimming sessions build confidence for the individual and their carer – and in a welcoming environment that has great health benefits.

“It’s all here to make it easy and accessible to enjoy the activity and once people visit us we are confident they will return.

“Anybody with a memory issue can come to the dementia swimming sessions, it has immense benefits for both the carer and the swimmer.”

The classes are led by swimmers and carers with trained staff attending poolside to offer guidance and support to enjoy a gentle exercise and social session in the pool.

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s deputy leader, Debbie Mason, said: “Within Rushcliffe, approximately 1% of our residents are living with dementia.

“As a council, we want to ensure they are supported with wellbeing opportunities wherever we can.

“The benefits of swimming are well publicised both in terms of physical health and emotional wellbeing, but it has also been shown to improve the quality of life of those living with dementia.

“This is why we are partnering with Lex Leisure to offer dementia-friendly swimming at Cotgrave Leisure Centre.”

There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with one in six over the age of 80 now having a form of the condition.

For more information on the Dementia Swimming Project visit www.swimming.org/dementiafriendly, contact Cotgrave Leisure Centre on 0115 989 2916 or email Cotgrave@LexLeisure.org.uk.

It is time again for the kids to show us all how it is done! This August, to celebrate the Summer Holidays, we are handing the reins over to the smallest among us. We want all of the volunteer roles to be filled by the kids of parkrun.

Whether you have a child who wants to be involved in the technical side of timing/scanning, the excitable cheering kids who can be excellent marshmallows (junior marshals), or even a dead confident potential Run Director for the day, then we want to hear from you!

Either comment within this event or email us at meltonmowbray@parkrun.com to volunteer. We just need their barcode number (or for under 4s, your barcode number).

Each time we have done these, the event has run as smoothly as ever with an incredible atmosphere. As Whitney said, “We! believe the children are the future. Volunteer and let them lead parkrun.”

If you are a fully grown kid then come along, have a run and see what the little ones can do!

Nottingham Food and Drink Festival – August 10th & 11th – 2019
Open 10am – 6pm Daily
A fantastic day out for the whole family, dogs welcome (on a lead)

The Nottingham Food & Drink Festival set in the spectacular Wollaton Park in Nottingham promises to be an event not to be missed for specialist food and drink enthusiasts.

The Festival’s ‘Super Theatre’ plans to give a series of entertaining and instructive live cookery demonstrations throughout the weekend, with a superb line up of celebrity chefs, who will bring an intriguing selection of international food backgrounds and influences to the show.

On Saturday we have for the first time Sean Wilson, a popular celebrity chef and cheese maker, who is also well known for his time on Coronation Street. Sunday sees the return of Jean Christophe Novelli , everyone’s favourite fun loving chef. They are supported by Mark Lloyd – foraging expert, Eva Humphries – nutritionist, local chef Liam Woodward who is currently working at Eatons Bar & Brasserie and Johnny Pusztai – the Snobby Butcher from Nottingham.

We have some very good, less well-known chefs, so its perhaps a good idea to present a small bio for them.

Eva Humphries is a nutritionist known as the Wholefood Warrior, she will be talking and cooking with whole, natural foods with reference to the Ketogenic diet. The Ketogenic diet is a lifestyle change that gives considerable health benefits, it’s well worth a look at.

Mark Lloyd will be familiar to a lot of previous visitors, he’s been our presenter introducing chefs at our festivals for the last six years. This year he gets his turn up front with his own recipes that that feature a lot of wild foods foraged from the English Countryside.

Liam Woodward specialises in classic British seasonal menus with a strong Italian influence.

Moving around the Festival we come to the Piazza, that fabulous area where you come to eat and relax and listen to live music on our music stage before taking in the rest of the event. Food Halls, Real Ales, Wine Tasting, The Bushtucker Trials, Crafts Corner, Children’s Entertainment and workshops.

The Festival brings to Nottingham a touch of summertime, al fresco dining, Masterchefs, artisan food and drink, music, fun and hopefully laughter. So come along to enjoy yourselves, eat drink and be merry.

Belvoir has been the ancestral home of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland for one thousand years and is currently the family home of 11th Duke and Duchess and their five children.

The present Castle is the fourth to have stood on the site since Norman times. The existing Castle was completed in the early 19th century after previous buildings suffered complete or partial destruction during the Wars of the Roses, the Civil War and a major fire in 1816.

Firework Champions is proud to produce this world famous event at such a stunning venue. If you love fireworks or just want an amazing evening out with friends and family then you’ve come to the right place – we’d love to have your company on the night.

The Perseids are one of the brighter meteor showers of the year. They occur every year between July 17 and August 24 and tend to peak around August 9-13.

Made of tiny space debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle, the Perseids are named after the constellation Perseus. This is because the direction from which the shower seems to come in the sky lies in the same direction as Perseus. The Perseids are widely sought after by astronomers and stargazers because most years at its peak, one can see 60 to 100 meteors in an hour from a dark place.

Although there will be a bright moon in the sky, it should still be possible to see upwards of 30 meteors per hour over the night of Monday, August 12th. So we will host a ‘viewing party’ kicking off about 10pm, in our beer garden. We will have blankets available, and will offer mugs of soup, hot chocolate, mulled wine and cider, and maybe some sweet treats to eat while you wait and watch.

No need to book your place, just come down to the pub around 10pm. Families welcome (it’s the school holidays, so no reason not to let the kids stay up).

For more on the Perseids, and an interactive sky map so you know where to look, see here:

Southwell
The Manor House Little Carlton, Little Carlton, Newark NG23 6BX, UK

Southwell Music Festival is an annual, top-quality classical music festival taking place each August Bank Holiday to celebrate classical music, to raise the profile of the town and its magnificent medieval Minster, and to inspire local musicians – especially young people. Like the previous five Festivals, the 2019 Festival will be held over the Bank Holiday weekend from Wednesday 21st to Monday 26th August.

Southwell – a small, historic town in rural Nottinghamshire on the edge of Sherwood Forest – is the ideal place for a festival. Dominating the town is its Minster – seat of the Bishops of Southwell and Nottingham and a centre for high quality music-making.

By kind permission of the Dean and Chapter, Festival performances are centred at the Minster, and in the historic State Chamber of the Archbishop’s Palace which has undergone major refurbishment thanks to a substantial grant from The Heritage Lottery Fund.

The festival is the idea of former Southwell Minster Head Chorister, now award-winning international baritone, Marcus Farnsworth who was brought up in the area and continues to have strong links with the town.

When Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) discovers she is pregnant, she delves into a quest of discovery into her mother Donna’s (Meryl Streep and Lily James) past experiencing the fun that she had with her three possible dads (Pierce Brosnan/Jeremy Irvine, Colin Firth/Hugh Skinner and Stellan Skarsgard/Josh Dylan). And this time Grandma is visiting as Cher joins the stellar cast as Grandmother.

Get ready for an unforgettable cinematic event this summer ON the stunning lands of Belton House! Often cited as the quintessential country house estate, Belton sits with quiet but stately confidence in elegant formal gardens with a historic deer park. Spend time with us and see how generations of the Brownlow family secured the very finest designers and craftsmen to create the Belton that we love today.

All Levels Yoga – 09.00

About your tutor Sarah Camplin

Sarah is an experienced mosaic artist, and is passionate about the creative arts. Mosaics is an artform that she has been working with since she went to her first mosaics workshop at Rufford Abbey, in Nottinghamshire over 10 years ago. Sarah has been running her own mosaics workshops and been involved in community projects since November 2017, and had her first commission to create a company logo in December 2018.

Her work is heavily influenced by Gaudi, and neo-classicism, as well as the natural world, and she particularly likes to use mirrors to reflect the light, creating more depth and movement. Sarah is available to take commissions and is happy to get involved in more community projects; and values the positive impact the creative arts can have on reducing social isolation, and in increasing confidence and general well-being. Overall, Sarah is a fun maker and creative, with a relaxed approach.

To ensure the quality of your personal experience, group size will be limited to 10.

Summer Nights is a festival of outdoor film screenings in beautiful heritage locations throughout the summer.

Everyone is back for more ABBA inspired song and dance numbers!
