In the Rose gardens, little ones can take part in an eggciting Easter Trail following the Easter Bunny Billy. The robes made for the Manners family have not been on public view for more than 22 years. With the Coronation of King Charles III on 6 May adopting less formal attire, there is now an opportunity to put the robes on display at the Leicestershire castle along with Coronation chairs and archive family photographs, documenting the regal occasions.

The Dukes of Rutland have taken part in most coronations since James II in 1685. The roles given to the different Dukes of Rutland varied each time but, in the main, they were bearers of the Sceptre of the Consort (wife of the King) and played a role in the anointing – holding the cloth of gold over the head of the Monarch.

Emma Manners, Duchess of Rutland, said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity to share these beautifully made robes in this special Coronation year. It took us a while to track down where they had been stored, but I’m delighted to say we have now got the robes worn by the Duke and Duchess in 1937 and the three page uniforms worn by their three boys. We do hope everyone enjoys coming to see the robes which have been beautifully presented in the Ballroom by the theatrical design team led by Charlotte Lloyd Webber.”

The Duke’s Coronation Robes trimmed with Ermine and Coronet were worn by John, 9th Duke of Rutland at the Coronation of George VI at Westminster Abbey in 1937 where he performed the role of Bearer of the Consort’s sceptre and cross. The same robes were later worn by the Charles, 10th Duke of Rutland at the Coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953.

The 9th Duchess – Kathleen Tennant –  or ‘Kakoo’, as she was affectionately known, was a Canopy Bearer for the Queen Consort (The Queen Mother). The Duchess’s Coronation Robes and Coronet feature silver brocade on an oyster satin background, with a train robe trimmed with Ermine.

The red page attire was worn by Charles, Marquis of Granby (future 10th Duke of Rutland, father of the present Duke, David Manners) where he performed the role of page to the Duke of Gloucester just two weeks before his 18th birthday.

Lord John Manners (aged 14), was page to the 9th Duke of Rutland and wore a gold coat trimmed with blue, the Belvoir colours. Lord Roger Manners (aged 11) was page to the Lord Great Chamberlain, Second Earl of Ancaster at Coronation in a blue coat trimmed with gold.

All the page boy garments were made by Wilkinson & Son, Jermyn Street, London. Their coats are made of Mohair wool, with silk satin waistcoats and wool flannel breeches.

The Regency Castle is the perfect setting to celebrate the Coronation Weekend (7-8 May) and witness the firing of the cannons to mark this momentous occasion and enjoy the best of British fare and entertainment.

Belvoir Castle opens on 12 March for weekends only until April. Belvoir gardens, woodland adventure playground and Engine Yard village are open every day.

Cinderella will be going to the ball at Belvoir this Christmas as the beautiful Regency castle is transformed into an immersive experience bringing the rags to riches fable to life.

The award-winning theatre design company CLW Event design are transforming the Leicestershire castle to bring the beloved fairytale of Cinderella to life in a series of breathtaking scenes staged in the ornate rooms.

Follow Cinderella’s story around the Castle, starting in the main Guard Room entrance hall, revealing two contrasting worlds in one house. Lavish jewel colours and glamour pop for Cinderella’s stepmother and her daughters while Cinderella’s world is decorated in a gentle naturalistic fashion to represent her simple life.

Of course, no story could be complete without seeing Cinderella climbing into her gold pumpkin carriage, this time in a bespoke peacock gown inspired by the insignia of the Castle, leaving behind her glass slipper on the steps below.

The grand finale sees Cinderella marry her Prince Charming in the Regent’s Gallery with the bride dressed in a beautiful wedding gown complemented by a pair of giant crystal-dressed Christmas trees.

A truly magical experience, Christmas at Belvoir is also the place to meet Santa Claus. In a cosy enchanted woodland grotto tucked away in the Castle’s Old Kitchen, Santa Claus and his helpers will be preparing for Christmas. Available to book separately, Santa’s grotto is guaranteed to bring the magic of Christmas to life for little ones, they will enjoy storytelling from Santa’s Elves, meet Santa and take home a gift to save for the big day. (Not included with Cinderella ticket)

As Belvoir is on the search for seasonal guides, choirs, local schools and musicians to add to the festive atmosphere.

This Christmas, the romantic fairytale is set to come to life at Belvoir Castle as the stage is set for a Regency reimagining of Cinderella. Once again, the spectacularly talented Charlotte Lloyd-Webber will transform the Leicestershire castle for the Christmas season.

Belvoir Castle really comes alive with the help of the castle guides. This year, there is the opportunity for 10 people with a passion for history, storytelling and a flair for customer service to become part of the friendly team for the Cinderella season from 18 November 2022 to 1 January 2023.

Throughout the Christmas period, the Castle is filled with live music, from musicians and local school choirs, adding to the festive atmosphere felt by everyone who walks through the doors. The Castle is giving local choirs, musicians and school groups the opportunity to perform in the beautiful Regency castle at weekends.

A typical day for a Belvoir Castle guide begins with waking up the castle, bringing it to life by lighting candles, unlocking doors and making sure everything is in place to welcome in the first visitors of the day. At Christmas this includes checking on the many Christmas trees and hundreds of lights, to make sure they are in perfect working order. A special and busy time of year, the guides are integral to ensuring everyone has an enjoyable visit to remember. Once the day is done, and all visitors have gone home, the guides are left to feel the magic of Belvoir, and glimpse behind the scenes while putting the castle to bed.

Guide Gill Bowman explains why she loves her role. She said: “Having just retired from a demanding job, I was looking for something to keep my brain active, meet new people and indulge my passion for history. Everyone I work with at the castle has the same interests, we are a very friendly group of people. The opportunity to work in a castle containing such historic treasures is a privilege and very rewarding.”

The seasonal guides will be part of a supportive team, led by a head guide who gives a daily briefing and assigns the roles. With the Castle opening hours running from 10am to 8pm, there will be early and late shifts available to suit, paid at the national minimum wage.

Once again, the fields surrounding Belvoir Castle will be filled with magnificent horses of all colours and stripes and their skilful riders for an incredible action-packed weekend of equestrian entertainment.

The two-day festival, set against the backdrop of the magnificent Regency caste, is offering the very best of equestrian skill and family-friendly entertainment. Excitement is on the cards as new to this year’s line-up is Atkinson Action Horses, the Yorkshire based family run enterprise that has been providing highly trained horses and riders for TV & Film for more than 25 years. Their displays will include the beautiful art of Liberty, so called as the riderless horses perform tricks and moves in response to verbal commands with no lead or reins used so are ‘at liberty’, as well as Classical Dressage and Cossack Trick Riding.

Audiences can also marvel at the Scurry Cart racing and Les Ecuyers d’Histoire, who have come all the way from France or wonder at the ancient horseback sport of tent pegging.

Alongside the action, artisan food vendors and a selection of high-end shopping stalls make for the perfect day out.

Calling all Dinosaur fans! The epic outdoor family experience Dino Kingdom is heading to Leicester for the perfect Jurassic day out over the May half term holidays.

Dino Kingdom takes over Abbey Park with huge prehistoric beasts descending on the beautiful green parkland in the centre of Leicester from Friday 27 May to Sunday 12 June 2022.

Fresh from roaming around London, the animatronic dinosaurs will bring ancient history back to life with the jaw-droppingly realistic models that move and roar led by the gigantic T-rex, King of the Jurassic era, and not forgetting an 18-metre-long Apatosaurus!

Coming from the creative minds behind the award-winning Lightopia Festival, families will journey back millions of years to the time when these majestic beasts reigned over the land and see them in their natural outdoor habitat.

Event organiser Ian Xiang said: “Bringing experiences to families that educate, entertain and inspire is our goal. Come along and stroke a dinosaur, dig a fossil, ride a dragon, hunt for dino eggs, sing a song on the stage, dress up and learn all about dinosaurs at the same time.”

Having already entertained families in Manchester and Nottingham in 2021, the Dino Kingdom Leicester experience is packed with new features for 2022. A Dinosaur Egg Hunt, Digital Village with AR and VR pod experience, live music, dinosaur-themed inflatable obstacle course and Dino Mini Golf are some of the new attractions in store.

Families can be sure of a great time with loads to see and do. Grab a dino hunting kit and find the hidden eggs to win a free gift; learn all about the anatomy of a dinosaur thanks to 3D mapping in the Digital Village, or brave an encounter with an immersive dinosaur sound installation in the woods.

An excavation area where budding palaeontologists can dig for discoveries, a giant dinosaur skeleton head and gigantic fossil tunnel, as well as a fairground with rides for all ages make for a great day out.

A Live Music stage offers the chance for budding singers to take up the mic and perform between a line up of acts to enjoy. Watch with a picnic or pick up some food and drink that is available on site.

The biggest and most spectacular festive season ever staged at Belvoir Castle will see the fairy-tale home transformed for A Regency Christmas and its historic gardens illuminated with a magical light trail.

Opening 15 November, the Regency Castle will be transformed into a festive spectacular by leading interior designer Charlotte Lloyd Webber. The hilltop castle is one of the finest surviving examples of Regency architecture and boasts a treasure trove of stunning binge-worthy interiors to thrill the most avid Bridgerton fan.

Taking inspiration from the Duke and Duchess of Rutland’s family insignia, the castle will be dressed with Regency inspired décor; trees will be draped in the Belvoir colours of blue and gold along with a festive palette; opulent rooms set in readiness for a party and other surprises to whisk the visitor into the world of Regency romance. Rooms will be decorated to highlight the High Regency interiors from the Guard Room, Ballroom, Elizabeth Saloon, State Dining Room and Picture Gallery to the Kings Suite Bedrooms and Regents Gallery.
